Eva: The First Victory of a Little Heart

Eva: The First Victory of a Little Heart

The young mother found out she was pregnant while living in Poland.
She diligently underwent all the necessary examinations — the results were good, and there were no alarming signs.
Still, she decided she wanted to give birth at home, in Ukraine.

After returning to Vinnytsia, she registered with a doctor. During a routine examination, she received difficult news — her unborn daughter was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

The delivery went well, but immediately after birth, baby Eva was taken to the intensive care unit, where she stayed until her condition stabilized.
After discharge, doctors explained that surgery would be needed later, when she was a bit older, as she had right-sided heart hypoplasia syndrome.

In time, Eva and her mother traveled to Kyiv, to the Amosov Institute. There, specialists confirmed the diagnosis and scheduled the surgery.
Surgeons performed stenting of the patent ductus arteriosus — a complex procedure that lasted more than three hours.
The operation was successful, and according to doctors, no further surgeries will be needed in the future.

Eva is still very little and cannot yet tell us about her dreams,
but her mother smiles and says she hopes her daughter will one day become a doctor —
someone who saves lives, just as hers was once saved.

Thanks to Charity Chain, a joint project of the Tvoya Opora Foundation and Guzema Jewelry brand, little Eva received all the necessary medicines and medical supplies during her treatment.
Our reliable partner, Credit Agricole Ukraine, provided the vital drug Custodiol free of charge for the open-heart surgery.
