Eight Hours for a Dream

Eight Hours for a Dream

Sofiia Lepkaliuk, born in 2007, has lived since childhood with a challenge that is not visible at first glance. Her heart had a congenital defect—subvalvular aortic stenosis. What for others was an ordinary rhythm of life required strength, patience, and faith from Sofiia every single day.

The day of the surgery became the longest in her life and in the life of her family. Eight hours of struggle—for every heartbeat, every breath, for the future. Eight hours during which the doctors were not merely performing surgery, but giving hope where it was vitally needed.

Today, Sofiia is on the path to recovery. Her heart has been given a chance to live without pain and limitations, and with it, her dream has returned. She dreams of becoming a cosmetologist—to give people beauty, confidence, and smiles, just as she herself was once given a chance at a full life.

Sofiia’s surgery and treatment became possible thanks to the generous support of the Lancôme brand, which extended a helping hand to the family at their most difficult moment. It was this support that ensured the provision of all necessary materials and medications.

The assistance was provided within the framework of the “Big Little Heart” project for St. Nicholas Day 2024—a project that gives children not just treatment, but an invaluable gift: a chance at a life filled with light, hope, and a future.
