Recovery for the Future: The Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Receives New Equipment
Recently, the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine received new medical equipment thanks to the combined efforts of the EVA retail chain, the Tvoya Opora Charitable Foundation, and tens of thousands of Ukrainians. This marks a significant step in restoring the Center’s operations after it sustained damage from a missile strike on Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital on July 8, 2024.
The donated equipment — a surgical table and three pediatric functional beds — is critical for providing high-quality medical care to thousands of young patients fighting for their lives.
The missile attack damaged the Center’s surgical unit, destroyed part of the inpatient department, ventilation and sterilization systems, and compromised the integrity of the facilities. These damages put the lives of children in urgent need of cardiac surgery at serious risk.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, EVA turned to the Tvoya Opora Foundation to launch a charitable campaign. Titled "Together for Children", the fundraising initiative ran from July 15 to August 9, 2024, and united over 226,000 caring individuals from 332 cities across Ukraine. Thanks to this effort, UAH 2,909,873 was raised and directed toward purchasing essential equipment for the Center."This equipment is not only practical support but also a symbol that we are not alone in our fight. The surgical table and functional beds are critical for our patients who fight for life from the very first days. On behalf of our team and the parents of our patients, I thank the foundation, EVA, and everyone who supported this campaign,"
— said Andriy Maksymenko, Medical Director of the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery."When it comes to saving children’s lives, united efforts have incredible power. Thanks to our partners and compassionate Ukrainians, the Center now has new equipment that will help us continue saving young lives,"
— emphasized Valeriya Tatarchuk, founder of the Tvoya Opora Foundation.
EVA focused its support on the Center for Pediatric Cardiology because its destruction was overshadowed by the more widely covered tragedy at Okhmatdyt."When disaster threatened children's lives, we couldn't stand aside. EVA co-owner Ruslan Shostak donated UAH 1,000,000 toward restoring Okhmatdyt, and along with the ‘Ukrainian Thought’ and ‘Tabletochki’ foundations, we provided humanitarian aid to hospitals that took in young patients. But our biggest contribution was the 'Together for Children' campaign with the Tvoya Opora Foundation, which enabled us to purchase life-saving equipment for the Pediatric Cardiology Center. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who supported this initiative—it was a vital step in the fight for children’s health,— said Oleksandra Hnatyuk, PR Director at EVA.
This project is a powerful example of how businesses, charities, and concerned citizens can work together to solve urgent problems, even in the most difficult times. The donated equipment is a significant contribution to restoring the Center’s operations for the benefit of its youngest patients in need of cardiac care.
