A Little Fighter: Sasha’s Story
The news of pregnancy was a true celebration for the family, and expectant mother Snizhana was eagerly awaiting the birth of her baby girl, Sasha. She carefully followed all medical advice, and the nine months of pregnancy went very smoothly. The delivery also went without complications, and the young parents happily immersed themselves in caring for their newborn.
Sasha’s illness came as a complete shock. During a routine check-up when Sasha was four months old, the pediatrician detected a heart murmur and advised the family to visit the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. Specialists there reassured the worried parents, explaining that the small hole in Sasha’s heart might close on its own. They scheduled a follow-up in six months.
During that time, Sasha showed no symptoms and continued to feel well. But after the planned examination, the news was difficult: the hole had not closed, and surgery was necessary.
Sasha underwent a successful heart surgery, during which the surgeons performed a plastic repair and closed the hole. She spent three days in the intensive care unit under constant medical supervision. Once her condition stabilized, she was discharged to continue recovery at home.
Sasha received help through the "Little Big Heart" project, which supports children with congenital heart defects. Thanks to a radical surgical intervention, Sasha won’t need another operation!
We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to #Charity_Chain, a joint project of the Tvoya Opora Foundation and Guzema Jewelry, which helped provide Sasha with all the essential medications during surgery and recovery.
Special thanks to singer and influencer Diana Gloster, whose support ensured Sasha received Custodiol — a vital medication for open-heart surgery.
