A Flower That Dances with Her Heart

Mariia is her mother’s little flower, her strength and her joy. This is how her mother describes her—a young dancer who, even in the most difficult moments, finds light within herself and shares it with everyone around her. Mariia’s smile warms the heart, and her love of movement and dance inspires those who see her.

Mariia was born with a congenital heart defect—subaortic stenosis. This condition involves a narrowing below the aortic valve that obstructs the normal outflow of blood from the heart. As a result, her heart has to work under increased strain to supply the body with oxygen, turning each day into a real challenge for a child.

Despite this, at just eight years old Mariia loves learning. She enjoys reading and mathematics—subjects that give her joy, confidence, and a sense of calm. And dance is Mariia’s way of speaking to the world in the language of the heart.

The surgery lasted more than six hours. Six long hours of struggle, anxiety, and hope. During this time, doctors did everything possible to ensure that Mariia’s little heart could beat steadily and confidently, giving the girl a chance at a full and active life.

Mariia’s surgery and treatment became possible thanks to the generous support of the Lancôme brand, which helped the family at their most difficult moment. It was this support that ensured the provision of all necessary materials and medications.

The assistance was provided within the framework of the “Big Little Heart” project for St. Nicholas Day 2024—a project that gives children not just help, but an invaluable chance at a life filled with light, hope, and a future.
