The joy of little Sofiika's birth turned into worry and anxiety when her parents were informed of the child's diagnosis. The girl was found to have a subarterial ventricular septal defect.
This type of heart defect requires surgery, but Sofiika was born very tiny, so there could be no talk of performing it immediately. It was necessary to wait until the child grew stronger. At three months old, her mother brought her for examination to the M.M. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. After the examination, it was decided that the girl could already undergo surgery.
Surgeons at the Institute performed complex open-heart surgery on Sofiika. In four and a half hours, doctors removed the defect in the septum and replaced the valve with a myxomatous one. Fortunately, the girl tolerated the surgery well and spent only a few days in intensive care.
It is currently unknown whether Sofiika will need repeat surgeries in the future. Now it is important to monitor the girl's condition, so she must undergo examinations by specialists every two to three months. Our heroine is still very small, but she is a very brave and strong girl! We wish her much strength and energy to explore the world around her, and most importantly – good health!
Thanks to the "Big Little Heart" project, we have helped another wonderful child, and this is our main goal. Thank you to everyone who joined #Charity_chain. This is a joint project of the "Tvoya opora" Foundation and the Guzema Jewerly brand. It was thanks to this that Sofiika was provided with all the necessary medications and medical supplies during the surgery and in intensive care.
And the project of our foundation with Synevo helped to provide the drug "Custodiol," the use of which is extremely necessary during open-heart surgery. If you want to give another little one a chance at life, click "Help"!
