Ukraine lost the reservoir's vast contents – on average, 18 billion cubic meters of water. The stormy flow washed away dangerous chemicals and the contents of sewage pits, also swallowed oil pipelines, gas stations, residential and administrative buildings. The Office of the President of Ukraine reported that grease and oil stains weighing at least 150 tons drifted along the Dnieper River.
Kakhovka Reservoir, one of the largest water reservoirs in Ukraine, which once provided drinking water to more than 1 million Ukrainians, was destroyed. And it can take years to restore not only buildings but also ecosystems.
After the hydroelectric power plant explosion, the head doctor of Kherson's medical institution addressed the musical group Kalush Orchestra with an official letter. The artists joined forces with the Charitable Foundation "Your Support" to help provide Kherson Hospital with water treatment facilities as soon as possible. That means the institution and its patients will have clean drinking water.
Kalush Orchestra regularly supports charity initiatives, raises funds at their concerts, and organizes charity auctions. Thus, thanks to their charitable activities, the band collected over 60 million UAH for Ukraine.
